Why building your own website is the fastest way to grow your business this year

3 January 2022

If you’re a business owner without a website – or with an old, out-of-date site – wondering how to grow your business in 2022, I will save you some time: you need a well-designed, thought-out, lead-generating website.

And the best way to create a website that will grow your business?

Having one that you feel is a true reflection of the work that you do, the values that are important to you and one that you’re proud to drive traffic to.

Often, that starts with building your own website. Because you don’t need to articulate your vision for someone else to interpret.

Yes social media is massive these days, and social media marketing is a key tool used by many small business owners – but you still need a website. You may already have a Facebook page and an Instagram account (I’m guessing you do), and these social media accounts have likely helped you get your business started and even help you to get sales or clients. But if you want to grow your business this year, you need a website.

It is getting more and more difficult for businesses to connect with users on social media organically, and it’s widely known that Facebook and Instagram are restricting organic reach in favour of paid advertising.

Whilst I am not denying social media can help your business grow, and I use the channels myself as part of a marketing strategy to grow my business, it’s not wise to utilise social as your sole marketing channel. There are multiple reasons for this: you do not own your pages, or your customer data and you are at the whim of algorithm changes and changing consumer behaviour.

Create your own website to grow your business in 2022

Are you wondering ‘do I still need a website for my coaching business in 2022’?

Consider how you go about deciding what to buy or who to work with.

The first thing many of us do when wanting to find information or a business is search on the internet. Google (or Bing) searches bring up a multitude of results linking to blogs with recommendations – which link to websites – or business websites themselves.

Imagine the scenario – a friend has recommended a solution to your problem you’re having with your back – perhaps a local massage therapist, for example. More than likely you head to Google to find their website to check them out and read reviews.

Your future customers will do the same, a website is the digital foundation for your business’s long-term growth.

In fact, recent research by Deloitte found that digitally advanced small businesses experienced revenue growth over the previous year that was nearly four times as high as those without digital capacity.

A digitally advanced business begins with a website.

Here are my 4 top reasons why building your own website is the fastest way to grow your business in 2022:

1. Increase your online visibility

One of the major benefits of having a website is to be where your target customers are. A well-designed, search engine optimised site will significantly increase the number of people who find your business.

With over 97 percent of people going online to find a local business, and more than 93 percent of online experiences beginning with an online search, a website increases your visibility and ability to be found.

Google processes over 3.5 billion searches a day. The chances are right now someone is searching for the product or services you provide.

However, if you don’t have a website they can’t find you.

Over two in three consumers primarily use a business’s website to find and engage with them, without a website you miss out on a large portion of your target customer.

Building, or rebuilding, your website from start to finish will help you to increase your business’s online visibility and stand out from the crowd.

2. Build authority and reputation

Your website, once built, will become your number one marketing tool.

We live in a digital society, with UK adults spending over 4 hours a day online. Consumers expect businesses to have websites, and will often think a business that doesn’t have a website is unprofessional. Interestingly, 30% of consumers won’t consider a business without a website – so having your own website will increase your potential customer base significantly.

A well-designed website will also help you to increase your business’s credibility, 3 in 4 people admit to judging a business based on their website design. Building trust with potential customers is important, and good website design can help you do that. When you build your own website, you are in complete control of the design – and can tweak the design over time without incurring additional costs.

3. Get more clients

A client-winning website, that looks amazing and brings in new bookings and sales, is a sure-fire way to grow your business in 2022. Getting new clients isn’t easy, but a well-thought through sales funnel on your website – as well as authentic, informative content – will help you to increase your revenue significantly. Building your own website means that you are in control of your customer journey, and can create new pages as you launch new products or services. You can also use your website to grow your email marketing list, creating another channel to contact your potential customers and turn more visitors into clients.

4. Save money and time

Wait, building my own website will help me save money and time?

Do you need a website for your coaching business

It might sound counterintuitive, but the answer is yes. I’ve helped thousands of business owners build their own websites, and many have told me that having the ability to manage their own website has saved them both time and money.

Time and money are some of the most important resources to a small business owner. They can be put to good by growing their businesses through investing in training or advertising, increasing marketing output or working with more clients.

When you build your own website, you cut out the time you would need to spend discussing your site with a web developer or agency and instead use that time to get your website up and running. You also save thousands of pounds you may have invested with them, and even more long term when you are able to make your own website changes and add fresh content whenever you want – without having to pay a web developer or be restricted by their time scales.

It also means that your website becomes a true reflection of you and your values. You no longer need anyone to translate your vision because you can do that yourself.
